Hello October! Honestly, I am hoping for better months ahead. A lot happened recently. My life has been quite a rollercoaster with unexpected twists and turns. I reached a point where it felt like I was doing things for everyone and unconsciously neglecting myself at the same time. I felt burned out because everything piled up all at once!
But, hey! I’m glad things are almost sorted, not finished, but getting there.
Adapting to Bluehost’s Storage and Website Limits
It all began when I needed to upgrade, fix, and update websites back in March 2023. As expected, there were some hiccups, but I managed to handle them. Then, when I was nearly finished, Bluehost sent me this email:
On or after November 1st, 2023, your Bluehost Shared Hosting plan will be updated to include storage and website limits, which new customers have been subject to for the past year.
What does this mean for me?
This means that, starting as early as your next renewal date, you will no longer have access to unlimited storage or unlimited websites. This industry-wide practice is to ensure the highest level of service and uptime, while also maximizing website performance for our customers. Well over 90% of our customers use little storage and will likely not be impacted by this change. However, a small portion use a disproportionate amount of storage and/or websites and will likely be impacted. Based on our records, you may be one of these customers.”
I couldn’t believe this situation, and from there, I just lost it! Didn’t I just write a blog about how fantastic Bluehost is?! And now this?! What the actual heck?!
At that moment, my brain started spinning, and I had to read the email about five times because I was so burned out I couldn’t absorb it! Here’s the full email; I just needed to put it here for memory’s sake:
Then, I clicked the link that said, “Upgrade to Unlimited Now.” Can you believe it? They were actually charging me a whopping $796.05! 😲 Seriously?! I paused for a moment and asked myself, “Why is this happening to me?” LOL! I maintain a total of 10 websites, including this one, and the other 9 are for businesses that I co-own and run.
Back on September 23, I dedicated a whole 20 hours to back up and prepare everything for migration (yes! 20 hours! i didn’t sleep). At that time, I had no idea where to migrate. My goal was simply to have everything backed up! Because the moment people start receiving the same email I got, maybe 20% to 35% of them will do the exact same thing, and the server will start to slow down.
And guess what? I wasn’t wrong! Today, their server is extremely slow! I’m even struggling to load my Bluehost cart just to take a screenshot of what they’re trying to charge me for!
Switching to Hostinger for Lightning-Fast Hosting
After securing all the backups, I embarked on thorough research to find a new home for my web creations. I discovered that many people were steering clear of any companies associated with Bluehost and let me tell you, there were plenty!
Finally, I found the best deal with Hostinger. I subscribed to their business plan, and I am genuinely thrilled with how fast all the websites are loading now. This speed boost is thanks to their NVMe storage. Most hosting providers still use SSD, but so far, Hostinger wins in terms of performance!
Yes, that’s my referral code in case you’re considering switching. But let me assure you, this isn’t just about overhyping things.
Everything I’m sharing is based on my actual experience. So far, I’ve successfully migrated 8 websites, with 2 more to go. I’ve encountered no issues during the migration process. Additionally, I appreciate Hostinger’s hPanel, which allows me to monitor my resource usage.
However, I can’t say for certain if the server speed is consistently fast, as I’m still in the first month, benefiting from their 30-day money-back guarantee. Well… we’ll see how things go. If any of you are using Hostinger, please do share your feedback and experiences. Your insights can be valuable for others considering a hosting provider. Especially to me, who is still within the 30-day money-back guarantee period! 🤪
