I just want to share my DITO MNP and overall Experience. Our whole family started November 2021 with DITO Telecommunity and chose it to be our primary mobile service provider. Mainly because of its signal strength in our area.
For more than 10 years, we’ve been using both Smart and Globe’s postpaid and prepaid services. I personally got sick and tired of it.
Aside from Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom’s unstable signal, I noticed that they always have this unending maintenance or what-so-ever. Because of that, I am not receiving any of my OTP requests, SMS are delayed and not being able to receive any calls unless I go out of our balcony or go up to our 3rd floor.
Again, we’ve been doing that for more than 10 years / since we moved to our family home here in Quezon City. And again, more than 10 friggin years! (I can’t stress this enough lol!) Then, what’s worst is that every time I call Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom’s customer service, oof! queue time is at least 15mins, nobody is going to answerΒ or you will encounter an agent that will just drop the call – which this happen to me several times.
So, imagine my joy the first time I heard that there will be a third major telco here in the Philippines. But before I talk about my DITO Experience, let me guide you through MNP process from other telco first. Especially if you are going to keep your old mobile number.
Smart MNP Port Out – In Store Appointment Tips
Last September 24, I blogged about converting my Smart postpaid to prepaid. It was fairly easy. My postpaid was converted to prepaid less than 24 hours. But, if you are planning to port out… now, that’s a different story.
If you are a Smart Communications Inc. postpaid or prepaid user and wish to port out to any network, here’s what you need to do:
- 1st, google βStay Smartβ click the link (https://smart.com.ph/pages/stay-smart)
- 2nd, choose Store Appointments.
- 3rd, look for the Smart Store nearest you. Choose – MNP Port Out – In Store Appointment (MNP Port Out – Virtual Appointment is useless)
- 4th, (which is the most important) book again the next day for MNP Port Out – Virtual Appointment. This is to follow up your request the next day.
- 5th – If you’re porting out a prepaid, make sure you have the sim bed. If not, make sure you know when was the last time you loaded and the amount. They also might ask the mobile number that you call / text often.
- 6th, bring a valid ID.
- 7th, a LOT of patience.
Smart MNP Port Out Experience
I want to clarify this. This may not what you will experience while going through this process with Smart,Β but this is what happen to me.
I booked an appointment for 10am and arrived there on time. Since multiple mobile numbers needs to be processed, I had a feeling that they will make it challenging on my end (just like what I’ve read in several social media posts).
The person who assisted me to process my requests took her time. I stayed there until 12 noon and then, she gave me a QR code for a virtual appointment in case that there will be a problem with the MNP’s. Also, she informed me that the Unique Subscriber Codes (USC) will be sent via SMS within 24 hours.
Knowing Smart Communications Inc.’s service, I already had a hunch that it will probably take more than 24 hours. So, as soon i reached home I scanned the QR code and tried to booked an appointment the same day to test. Guess what?! no virtual appointment on that same day. The next appointment available is the next day at 2:00pm.
The next day, I was assisted by a different person. I informed him that, I just wanted to follow up my MNP port out request and it’s been more than 24 hours. He verified some information. For a moment he got confused as to why my request wasn’t processed right away. Then he told me that he will personally follow up my request because it shouldn’t take this long.
After an hour or two, the one who assisted me in-store called me and told me that she will start processing my request. I was like… WHAT?! but ok… less than an hour, i received all 5 USC’s via SMS. So, meaning… she chose not to process it right away. Bottom line, it was a horrible experience.
Globe MNP Port Out Experience
One of the great perks of Ayala Rewards Circle member is that, when you go to a Globe Business Center, you can just walk in without any appointments and automatically, you’re on the priority lane. Truth, I was expecting the worst. But, I was shocked that the entire process took no longer than 30 mins for porting out 3 sims.
The Globe Unique Subscriber Codes (USC) arrived right away. Literally! I am not quite sure if it’s because I am an ARC member or what. But, while I was there, I just want to get things done so I can move on to my other errands. Thank you Globe for not giving me a hard time!
Although, I was planning to switch one of my backup sim to GOMO. Unfortunately, they do not process GOMO MNP in any Globe Business Center. The requests are done using the GOMO app.
Thing is, I tried to contact GOMO once via Facebook, their response time is a little close to 48 hours. Having that kind of experience, plus they don’t have a business center? (as far as I know. correct me if I am wrong) What if a technical issue happens or you need to port out? I guess I have to leave a message on their Facebook page and wait for 24 to 48 hours just to get an answer. So, no thanks.
DITO MNP Experience
Let’s be honest, DITO Telecommunity is quite new and so far, they have competitive rates when it comes to their data promos. As of this date, the most affordable data plan is their DITO 99 Freedom. The promo is priced atΒ β±99.00 and is inclusive of the following:
- 10GB Data for 30 days upon activation of the promo
- Unlimited DITO-to-DITO calls for 30 days upon activation of the promo
- Unlimited DITO-to-DITO SMS for 30 days upon activation of the promo
- 300 minutes of calls to other mobile networks
- Unlimited texts to other mobile networks
Promo period is from July 15 β January 31, 2022. Heck, this is more than enough for me! As for their signal, I have no issues when it comes to the places that I always go to. Except, if we go out of town. There’s still some parts of Luzon that has no coverage at all but I am confident that they’re working on it. But hey! it’s not that bad at all.
I had a little bit of a chit-chat with the manager and out of curiosity, I asked “why you do not have any advertisements?” He gave me the best answer! He said “right now, we are focusing more on building towers all over the country and that’s our priority”. That moment, I knew that I made the right decision. Also, they have a responsive chat support using the DITO app and that’s another plus!
The porting process took reasonable time. I ported more than 5 mobile numbers. While porting, they provided extra sims cards with data in it so we have something to use during the downtime while the porting is being processed.
But the moment I arrived home everything is fully processed. I wasn’t able to use the extra sims they provided. I will just give it away so they can also try DITO prepaid services.
DITO Overall Experience
Its been more than a week since I switched to DITO everything has been remarkable and satisfying especially when is come to their data promos. I don’t know if their lines will get congested later on due to overselling of their services. I hope not. But for the meantime, the whole family is enjoying it and loving it!
